Members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) through a letter threatened to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, blow up Chittagong Central Jail, court building and police stations if their detained associates were not released immediately.
The letter sent on behalf of the organisation’s Chittagong North District unit addressed to the jailer of Chittagong Central Jail, Rafiqul Kader, and it reached the jailor in the afternoon. The letter demanded immediate release of some arrested members of the outlawed organisation.
Jailor Rafiqul Kader admitted receiving the letter and said, “We have filed a general diary with the concerned Kotwali Police Station and issued red alert in the jail along with strengthening of vigilance.”
“We have intensified detective movement inside the jail and sent letter to the police administration to beef up security around the jail,” Kader said.
The letter read, “We, Abdul Mannan and Abdul Hannan, are the members of JMB suicide squad. You must release all the arrested JMB members within a month - our nephew Alauddin at first. We would blow up police stations, court building and jail gate if our nephew Alauddin is not released immediately. Our modern commando Kazi Sajjad Sardar, son of Maulana Fasiul Alam, and our father Sawkat Ali embraced martyrdom in the mahfil of Sayedee. We will also sacrifice our lives and embrace martyrdom.”
“Sheikh Hasina survived the August 15 carnage. But she will not survive this time. She will be buried on this soil through bombing,” Kader said quoting the letter.
The sender’s address was mentioned as Mohammad Abdul Mannan, son of Sawkat Ali, Ambiar Bari, Dakkhin Ghoramara Pakka Masjid, Kumira, Sitakunda, Chittagong, Chittagong Uttar Zila JMB.
There is a prisoner named Alauddin among the 27 JMB militants kept inside the jail. Alauddin is the son of one Nurul Absar of Masjidda at Delipara under Sitakunda upazila. He is a convict in August 17 bomb blast case, Kader added.Source: Daily Sun
