Mindy McCready and son found hiding in closet

mindyx-large.jpg (490×368)Country singer Mindy McCready and her son Zander, 5, have been found.

The two were hiding in a closet in Heber Springs, Arkansas, when authorities found them on Saturday, says CNN.com. "The child appeared to be in good condition when we found him ... he was in the closet with his mother," David Rahbany, the chief deputy U.S. Marshal in eastern Arkansas, told the news network.

It's hard to believe that Britney Spears, who broke out as a 17-year-old fresh-faced teenager, just turned 30. And the mom of two spent her birthday ice-skating in Houston with boyfriend Jason Trawick, says People.com.

Beyonce Knowles, meanwhile, told interviewer Katie Couric that her pregnancy cravings have been totally normal. "I was on a plane and the flight attendant came and was like, 'I have your hot sauce and pickles and bananas,' " she said, according to THR.com. "And I'm like, 'That is absolutely disgusting, what are you doing?' He's like, 'I read it on the Internet.' "

New generation of music central to protest

NEW YORK (AP) — The sound of insistent drumming bounces off the sides of nearby office towers announcing the location of the Occupy Wall Street home base long before its inhabitants are otherwise seen or heard.
David Crosby, left, and Graham Nash perform at the Occupy Wall Street encampment at Zuccotti Park, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 in New York. (AP Photo/Mary Altaffer)

Turn a corner in Zuccotti Park and you're likely to run into a drum circle or find someone strumming a guitar. Maybe it's an amateur trying to keep spirits up, or it could be the real deal — recording artists such as David Crosby and Graham Nash.

Music and musicians are woven into the fabric of the Occupy Wall Street protest, much as they were in movements, confrontations and protests of the past, from the American Revolution to slavery to the Civil War, suffrage movement, labor movement, civil rights movement and Vietnam War. But no defining anthem such as "We Shall Overcome" or "Which Side Are You On" has yet emerged for the protesters who have taken on corporate America.

"Every successful progressive social movement has a great soundtrack. The soundtrack (for Occupy Wall Street) is just as democratic and grass roots as the movement," said singer Tom Morello, who was given an MTV online music award for his performance of "The Fabled City" at Zuccotti Park last month. A clip of the performance has spread widely online.

Morello, who performs solo as The Nightwatchman and was a member of Rage Against the Machine, has also brought his guitar and sung at Occupy demonstrations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Nottingham and Newcastle, England. Just before midnight Wednesday, he performed near a darkened kitchen area at a demonstration in London.

He has also volunteered to contribute to an album of protest songs that Occupy Wall Street is putting together as a fundraiser this winter.

If Occupy Wall Street has no anthem yet, it's partly due to how a new generation experiences music: through personalized iPod playlists streaming through headphones instead of communal singalongs.

True to a movement that claims to speak for the 99 percent of Americans who aren't super-rich, Occupy Wall Street embraces many forms of expression. Musicians across several generations and styles have given their support.

"The more the merrier as long as you're going to bring in positive vibrations for the movement," said Kanaska Carter, a singer-songwriter who traveled from her home in Canada to camp out at Zuccotti Park in downtown Manhattan near Wall Street. She helped arrange Morello's appearance and is shown in the video clip of his performance, standing near him holding a guitar.

Crosby and Nash's manager sent an email to Occupy Wall Street's website asking if the musicians could perform. Crosby quietly came a few days earlier to check out the scene, worried that cold weather would make it difficult for him to play guitar, said Beth Bogart, who helped show him around. The day of their visit was warm, however. Because police don't allow amplification, the performance was decidedly old school. The audience heard only as far as the singers' voices could project.

Bogart couldn't hear Crosby and Nash, but "you could just see the energy," she said. "When the whole audience started singing you could see their spirit lifted. It really was a good vibe."

Among the first New York performers was Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel, an indie rock cult favorite who played a long set. Rapper Talib Kweli performed and so did Michael Franti. A 92-year-old Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie, veterans of the labor, peace and civil rights movements, sang "We Shall Overcome." Sean Lennon and Rufus Wainwright offered an irony-drenched version of Madonna's "Material Girl."

Kanye West and Katy Perry walked through Zuccotti, but didn't perform.

Then there are those drums, beaten steadily by about a dozen people who call themselves Pulse. Police and protesters have limited the hours of drumming to help neighbors work and occupiers sleep.

An Internet-connected, do-it-yourself culture allows people beyond those at Occupy demonstrations to join in. They can write their own songs and spread them on Twitter or YouTube. The band Atari Teenage Riot has made a new video for its song "Black Flag" that includes clips from Occupy demonstrations sent in by fans, said Shannon Connolly, vice president for digital music strategies at MTV. While she's staying in Zuccotti Park, Carter has written movement-inspired songs "Stand Up to Wall Street" and "Game of Chess" that she's put on her websites.

"The movement is not waiting for superstars to grace it with their presence," Morello said. "It's not waiting for a Diane Warren-penned anthem featuring Rihanna and Drake."

Occupy Wall Street's nature as a sometimes unfocused expression of dissatisfaction plays into the diversity, too, said Amy Wlodarski, a music professor at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.

"There's no centralized musical figure because there isn't a coherent value that is going to be communally expressed in song," she said.

Yet from the earliest days of America, music has been a cornerstone of protests and conflicts and movements. Music provided a voice for the disenfranchised and stirred people to fight injustice. The Revolutionary War produced "The Liberty Song." ''Follow the Drinking Gourd," with its escape directions for fleeing slaves, was the anthem of the underground railroad, while "Battle Hymn of the Republic" gave support to Union soldiers during the Civil War. Women fighting for the right to vote in the early 1900s had "Suffrage Song." There was even a protest song about lynching, the jazz-infused "Strange Fruit."

The labor and peace movements created some of the more enduring music, with such artists as Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan. "We Shall Overcome" was born during a strike in 1945. Based on an early 20th century gospel song, it became the theme of the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Meanwhile, anti-war sentiments flared in such songs as "All Along the Watchtower," ''Blowin' in the Wind," "Give Peace a Chance" and "What's Going On?"

Socially conscious music never went away. Such artists as Bruce Springsteen, OutKast and Bonnie Raitt continue to take on injustice. Others also give voice to social issues from the economy to anti-war to the environment to abuse. "We Are the World" galvanized anti-hunger efforts. Rappers such as Public Enemy and N.W.A. offered messages from the streets. Steve Earle puts a string of progressive causes to music and Neil Young recorded a disc of opposition to the Iraq War.

The more current protest music is not noticed as much as the music of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s because music is increasingly a more individualized experience. People rarely gather at each other's homes and pump up the volume on their stereos for a shared listen of a hot album. Instead, friends might burn a CD for a buddy or share a download of a tune.

But if Occupy Wall Street needs a song to call its own, Texas songwriter James McMurtry's seething "We Can't Make it Here," written in 2004, is a virtual blueprint for the movement. It tumbles with images about damage done to the country through corporate greed and political neglect. McMurtry knew he had something the first time he played a version of the song, then unreleased, during a visit to an Austin radio station.

"I had some really nasty emails on my website before I had even gotten home," he said.

Hopeful that things might change, McMurtry stopped performing what is probably his best-known song when Barack Obama was elected. He has since started playing it again. McMurtry said he's going to make "We Can't Make it Here" available for free on his website in a gesture of solidarity, and is encouraging fans to make their own videos to accompany it.

"I'd be glad to let them use that song," he said. "Whatever helps."

Morello, who has done what amounts to a tour of Occupy demonstration sites, considers it his job as a musician to "keep steel in the backbone and wind in the sails of people who are standing up for economic justice."

"I've been down there a couple of times," said MTV's Connolly. "There's always music. It's sort of a thread that runs through it."

The song's the thing for Swift, Perry at CMAs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Though still largely the domain of men, triumphs by Taylor Swift and The Band Perry at the Country Music Association Awards show that the young women of country music are finding their voices and shoving the boys out of the way.

Swift won the CMA's entertainer of the year for the second time Wednesday night, Kimberly Perry of sibling act The Band Perry took home song of the year and two other awards with her brothers, Neil and Reid. Add in wins by Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum and Sugarland, and the songwriting strength of today's country girls is undeniable.
From left, Neil, Kimberly, and Reid Perry of The Band Perry pose backstage with the awards for single of the year, song of the year, and new artist of the year at the 45th Annual CMA Awards in Nashville, Tenn., on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011. (AP Photo/Evan Agostini)

"When Taylor won entertainer I secretly sang (Beyonce's) 'Who runs the world? Girls,' to Blake," Lambert said after she and husband Blake Shelton repeated as male and female vocalist of the year. "I'm just really happy that females are starting to be very prominent and it is the female singer-songwriter.

"It's so cool that Kimberly wrote song of the year by herself. And that's a dream of mine. I'm just so happy the girls were really celebrated tonight."

Celebrated like rarely before. Swift became the second woman to win entertainer of the year twice, joining Barbara Mandrell, and she did it by the age of 21.

"To win it twice is like the coolest thing ever happening to me twice," Swift said backstage. "I'm freaking out right now."

She's inspired legions of young girls to take up guitar and write their own songs, and she has spread the gospel of country music to the Far East, filling stadiums like few others can. She crossed the 20 million mark in album sales and has almost no rival in the genre when it comes to bringing converts over the wall.

She's made all that headway on the strength of her songs. She loves nothing better than the process of turning inspiration into something that makes a connection with people all over the planet.

"All of the sudden this idea that was just yours is now everybody else's and they sing it in their cars and sing it about their breakups or falling in love and they incorporate it into their lives," Swift said.

Perry experienced a similar kind of revelation when her song "If I Die Young" conquered country radio then began to crossover on to pop stations. Rarely do country songs resonate across genres, and that the melancholy "If I Die Young" ran hard in the face of the successful formula so many follow made it even more impressive.

The song earned Perry song of the year, which goes to the writer, and The Band Perry, which includes her brothers, single of the year and new artist of the year.

Perry said the song came to her one afternoon and she got most of it down right away. She showed it to her mom and said she thought she'd bring it to Nashville to get help from another songwriter to finish it, but her mother encouraged her to keep ownership. It turned out to be the right choice.

"We sort of feel like we are part of the country evangelism scene and we love to hear country songs on pop radio," she said.

Crossing over was another strong theme of the night.

Jason Aldean, who earned his first major CMA award when his platinum-selling "My Kinda Party" won album of the year, also won musical event of the year for his duet "Don't You Wanna Stay" with pop star Kelly Clarkson. And Kenny Chesney won music video of the year for his duet "You and Tequila" with rocker Grace Potter.

Lady Antebellum, whose crossover appeal is rivaled only by Swift's, won its third straight vocal group of the year award and Sugarland took vocal duo of the year for the fifth straight time.

That theme also carried over to the stage where stars from different genres came together for some of the CMA's strongest performances. The show also featured plenty of sexy dancing, fire and belching smoke special effects and, at one point, acrobats spinning down from the ceiling on lengths of unspooling fabric.

Lionel Richie had every star buzzing on the red carpet before performing duets from his new country album with Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker and Little Big Town. He posed for a picture with Lambert and gave advice to Lady Antebellum on the red carpet.

Gregg Allman joined fellow Peach State natives Zac Brown Band on "Georgia on my Mind," Natasha Bedingfield, in a dress that featured a fluffy red skirt, joined Rascal Flatts on stage to perform their duet "Easy," and that was just the start of genre shuffling.

Shelton and Kenny Loggins opened the show with a high-energy version of Loggins' hit "Footloose." Later, Glen Campbell, one of country's biggest crossover pioneers who is now battling Alzheimer's disease, was given a musical tribute when Vince Gill, Keith Urban and Brad Paisley sang three of his songs.

Richie hadn't performed on the CMAs since 1986 when he appeared with Alabama. He noted the show has changed dramatically over the decades, as has country music.

"It's Cirque de Soleil ... it's full-on production," Richie said. "This is off-the-chain. This is the Oscars of the music business, the CMAs."

Lambert and Shelton made a little history when they took male and female vocalist of the year. They're the second married couple to win the awards in the same year.

"Congrats to my hubby, too," Lambert shouted from the stage to Shelton on the eve of her 28th birthday. "It's going to be a good night tonight, baby!" The camera cut to Shelton, who rubbed his hands together and smiled devilishly.

Google to launch music store

Google is hatching plans for an online music store moving the company into direct competition with Amazon and Apple in the digital music space.
shutterstock_74145832The company’s rumoured new store would provide both conventional MP3 music for download and streaming services to play music direct to devices.
According to music industry sources, quoted by the New York Times, the store could be open for business in a matter of weeks, although the company may need more time to secure deals with recording labels and music publishers.
It is also rumoured that the store will be connected to Music Beta, the service Google launched in May this year, which allows US-based users to back up music online, which can be streamed to personal devices, such as laptops, PCs, mobile phones and tablets.
The search giant declined to comment at this stage but, given the strong rumours, Google’s growing appetite for expansion beyond search, the company launched Google Flights last month for example, and its existing music service, the speculation seems well placed.
There is significant potential to leverage Google’s other services, and Google+ in particular, for a more connected online music experience.
Google’s entry to the online music scene will put pressure on giants Apple and Amazon and smaller streaming-services like Spotify that are already enjoying success in the market. Yet, at the same time, with these companies well placed and performing well, there will be pressure on the music store to avoid joining Google TV amongst the list of Google flops.

Facebook music service launching 22nd September

Facebook is reportedly launching a new music service on September 22nd, reports CNBC. That is also the date of Facebook’s annual f8 Developer Conference.

Facebook was previously rumored to be launching a music service partnering with Spotify, as we reported in May. In June, a hacker claimed to have found evidence of the service, called ‘Facebook Vibes’, on Facebook’s site. According to the hacker, Jeff Rose, a string in the download link for the recent Facebook Video Calling app makes reference to a ‘Facebook Vibes’ product that Rose conjectured might be a music offering.

The video chat plugin, called peep, is what is downloaded now. At some point in the future they seem to be prepared to download another app though, called Facebook Vibes. I searched around to see what this is all about, and it seems that this is an unannounced feature that has yet to be released. The vibes app connects with a music download dialog in the page though, so I’m guessing that with this release we are seeing the seeds for Facebook’s upcoming music offering.

Bangladeshi singer Mila seriously ill

Popular Bangladeshi female rock singer Mila has suddenly fallen ill, due to a number of physical complications. Mila turned famous in Bangladesh following release of her debut album in 2007. Her album reached the top ten charts and remained at the position for months.
Mila is a household name today in Bangladesh, having established herself as a pop icon amidst the young music lovers in Bangladesh. Her songs and music videos showcase her vivacious personality, not to mention her courage and willingness to experiment. Her mother, a Nazrul singer, played a significant role in shaping up her interest towards music. From a very young age, Mila would watch her mother practice on the harmonium, which later on she picked up. Once she reached Class 5, however, because of academic pressure at school, she had to take a break from music practice. That did not take away her interest in music, however; instead, she grew stronger not only as a person, but also as a musician within. After getting done with her Class 10, Mila finally decided to pursue a career in singing and prepared herself to work hard for it.

Being born and brought up in an army society, Mila moved all over Bangladesh all her life. From the age of three, music has been her passion and she took classical training from her gurus and mother who has been a Nazrul-geeti singer herself. After finishing her secondary school certificate exam, Mila decided to pursue a carrier in what has been her passion all her life. Her debut album was a huge hit and made her one of the most popular singers in Bangladesh.

Music critics always said, Mila was more a performer and dancer on the dais than a singer. They even alleged Mila for objectionable lyrics in her songs, as well as mostly use of pirated music loops from abroad.

"She merely rocked the audience with her seductive poses, which is surely very much unwelcome in Bangladeshi society", said one of her critics.

Mila has also been accused of vulgarity during performance as well as using slangs in her lyrics. Though her debut album made her well-known in Bangladesh, the society and music lovers has later declined to buy any further album of Mila. As a result, her second solo has been a grand flop. On the other hand, none of the music companies in Bangladesh were any more willing to release Mila's albums. But, because of her special zeal as a performer, Mila was always rocking audiences mostly in foreign countries on a regular basis. She has been one of the top ranking foreign currency earning singers from Bangladesh.

And the bad news for the Mila fans is, she has recently fallen seriously ill due to number of physical complications. According to a vernacular daily, Mila is suffering from Hepatitis-B as well as other physical ailments, including skin disorder.

Hepatitis B is an infectious illness caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) which infects the liver of hominoidea, including humans, and causes an inflammation called hepatitis. Originally known as "serum hepatitis", the disease has caused epidemics in parts of Asia and Africa, and it is endemic in China. About a quarter of the world's population, more than 2 billion people, have been infected with the hepatitis B virus. This includes 350 million chronic carriers of the virus. Transmission of hepatitis B virus results from exposure to infectious blood or body fluids such as semen and vaginal fluids, while viral DNA has been detected in the saliva, tears ,and urine of chronic carriers with high titer DNA in serum. However, Hepatitis B viruses cannot be spread by casual contact, such as holding hands, sharing eating utensils or drinking glasses, breast-feeding, kissing, hugging, coughing, or sneezing.

The acute illness causes liver inflammation, vomiting, jaundice and rarely, death. Chronic hepatitis B may eventually cause liver cirrhosis and liver cancer—a fatal disease with very poor response to current chemotherapy. The infection is preventable by vaccination.

Hepatitis B virus is an hepadnavirus—hepa from hepatotrophic and dna because it is a DNA virus—and it has a circular genome composed of partially double-stranded DNA. The viruses replicate through an RNA intermediate form by reverse transcription, and in this respect they are similar to retroviruses. Although replication takes place in the liver, the virus spreads to the blood where virus-specific proteins and their corresponding antibodies are found in infected people. Blood tests for these proteins and antibodies are used to diagnose the infection. Transmission of hepatitis B virus results from exposure to infectious blood or body fluids containing blood. Possible forms of transmission include sexual contact, blood transfusions, re-use of contaminated needles & syringes, and vertical transmission from mother to child during childbirth. Without intervention, a mother who is positive for HBsAg confers a 20% risk of passing the infection to her offspring at the time of birth. This risk is as high as 90% if the mother is also positive for HBeAg. HBV can be transmitted between family members within households, possibly by contact of nonintact skin or mucous membrane with secretions or saliva containing HBV.

Lady Gaga criticizes Arizona immigration laws

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Singer Lady Gaga says she doesn't agree with Arizona's tough immigration law and wrote the song "Americano" as a response to it.

Lady Gaga is in Mexico City for two concerts.
She said during a news conference Friday she has a strong relationship to Mexican culture, then added: "I don't stand by many of those unjust immigration laws in my country."
An immigration law passed last year allows Arizona police officers to question the immigration status of people they suspect are in the country illegally.
That provision and others in the southwestern U.S. state are on hold pending a court challenge.
