Facebook released a program that pays users to view ads on the Facebook website.
Facebook is going to pay users that are viewing ads on their website. They are going to receive Facebook Credits that can be used to purchase goods through the Facebook Deals service, a service Facebook released to compete with Groupon.
The ads will be displayed in games. Some of the games publishers that are going to participate in this program are CrowdStar, Digital Chocolate and Zynga. Facebook is working with Sharethrough, SocialVibe, Epic Media and SupersonicAds to deliver the ads. TrialPay is going to handle the statistics.
Dan Greenber, Sharethrough executive director, said that this move made by Facebook represents a step forward in providing online advertising.Greenberg, who represents clients such as Microsoft or Nestle, said that his network will not deliver traditional ads. They are going to focus on brand entertainment, ads that consumers not only want to see, but they are also going to share with their friends.
Last week Facebook extended their Credits program and created the option for users to share Facebook credits to purchase real goods promoted through the Facebook Deals program.
Facebook Deals is a program through which users can purchase goods at a reduced price. Basically, this is a service very similar to the service offered by Groupon.
Through Facebook Deals, the company is focusing on offers that offer people an experience they can share with users, like wine tasting or photography classes, according to Emily White, Facebook Senior Executive.
