Visit the New Facebook scare spreads on Facebook

Warnings are being posted across Facebook, warning users to beware messages from friends that invite them to "Visit the New Facebook".

Although these messages are being shared by Facebook users with the best of intentions, the warning about the risk of being locked out of your own Facebook account may in fact be more of a nuisance than the alleged hacker attack itself.

Here's a typical message seen on Facebook:

Visit the New Facebook

PLEASE RE-POST FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!THIS NOTICE IS DIRECTED TO EVERYONE WHO HAS A PAGE ON FACEBOOK: IF SOME PEOPLE IN YOUR PROFILE OR YOUR FRIENDS SEND YOU A LINK WITH WORDS "VISIT THE NEW FACEBOOK ' DO NOT OPEN! IF YOU OPEN IT YOU CAN SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR PAGE. IT'S A HACKER WHO STEALS YOUR DETAILS AND REMOVES YOU FROM YOUR OWN PAGE. COPY AND SPREAD THE WORD

However, Sophos researchers have found no evidence that the threat is real. We simply haven't managed to uncover any reports of any users hit by such an attack.

As such, it appears that this is just the latest chainletter spreading across the social network. We've certainly seen plenty of similar examples of hoaxes spread by well-intentioned people in the past.

Remember, a genuine alert would be likely to contain a link to a legitimate security firm's website - detailing the true nature of the threat.

Remember to always get your computer security advice from a computer security company. Friends may be well-intentioned in passing on warnings, but it's always good to check your facts before forwarding them any further.

If you want to learn about the real threats on Facebook you should join the Sophos Facebook page, where we'll keep you up-to-date on the latest rogue applications, scams and malware attacks threatening social network users.

Script that gives hackers access to user accounts floods Facebook!

A widespread hack spread across Facebook early Thursday morning and shows no signs of abating as of yet. It comes in the form of a script that posts heavily profanity-laden wall posts continuously, instructing you that the only way to remove the posts is to click a ‘Remove This App’ link.

Unfortunately the link is a hoax and allows the malicious script to access your Facebook account. Your account will then continue to spread the script in the form of similarly formatted wall posts on your friends accounts.

The message uses the phrase ‘Vote for Nicole Santos’, leading some to believe that it is a high school prank related to Prom season.

Here is a link (http://pastebin.com/u5abvXQi) to the raw code of the script causing the problems on Facebook. If any of you commenters have any suggestions as to how this might have been injected in the first place please do let us know.

Unsurprisingly many are trying to trace the source back to the ‘Nicole Santos’ that may have originated it, although it’s unclear whether this person would be the originator or just a victim of the hack.

As of now the only solution seems to be not to click on the link or any link requiring that you ‘Verify you account to prevent spam’ as this may be how the hack gains access to your Facebook wall in the first place. Simply block the friend sending it to you as their account is now compromised. Once the problem has been fixed by Facebook you can re-enable them.

We will continue to update you on the hack and it’s effects, check back with this post for more information

But it is badly true that now it is making Problem for the Users. Some of the users are in fear that "Are they hacked or not"? But the Main problem is what we don't know. Some are thinking Hacked, Some are thinking New Layout problem, Some are thinking about the New Integration problem. But we are still haven't Find the Proper Cause!

We know that Facebook is now became most Browsed or Searched website of the world. But Facebook should inform about this knid of problem what ever is occuring as huge and big problem. And from some months we are watching that Facebook is not anymore being User Friendly! Thay are blocking News Websites, isn't taking proper action against Sex Scam & Scam Application, Limited Friend Request Sending Systems etc. Their new Messaging systems is also occuring problem to users. And users are upset about that to. They are now not in Social Networking market Place, but they are moving to do business. We think Facebook should think about their users who are using from all over the world. If they provide good service to their users, then users also will support as much as they can.

Over 60,000 click on scam Facebook app which claims you can see who checked your profile

undefinedOver 60,000 people have been hit in the past few hours on Facebook by a scam which claims that after installing an app called ePrivacy you can see who checked your profile. Needless to say the app does not work. Instead it just lets the scammer access your profile and post “OMG OMG OMG… I cant believe this actually works!” to your wall, with a link to the app, thus spreading it further.
Sophos is reporting that the application does not work and simply allows the makers to steal your private data and virally spread the app amongst your friends.
The best way to check you privacy settings and remove the app is to go to Account -> Privacy Settings -> Applications and Websites.
The scammers are simply playing on peoples desire to see who looks at them on Facebook – which rather makes me wonder why Facebook doesn’t just release an official app for this and keep the scammers out.
Facebook has been informed of the app.
