Browser-Powered Desktop Notifications Are Coming To Gmail

undefinedNow this is nice. If you’re a heavy Gmail user you’ve probably installed some kind of desktop notification system — be it a browser extension, a separate Gmail app like Mailplane and/or Growl. But now, hot on the heels of launching a dynamic unread count in browser tabs, Gmail is launching something that doesn’t require any downloads: built-in desktop notifications.
A small banner on Gmail just prompted me to enable the feature, which works for both inbound chat and email messages (you can opt to receive notifications for all new emails, or just ‘Important’ ones as deemed by your Priority Inbox). Google is probably rolling this out gradually (there’s no blog post yet), but I’m seeing it in both of my accounts.
The ‘Help’ page for the feature is blank (despite the fact that the banner links to it) so details are still pretty scant. This is presumably using HTML5 browser notifications, and is apparently only working in Chrome — I tried testing it in Safari and received this message:
undefined
In practice it seems to work fairly well, though I think I’ll be sticking with Growl for now. I’m noticing that the notifications don’t have a minimum time that they’ll apear on screen — if a friend of mine sends multiple IMs in succession, the newest will immediately pop up over the older ones. Even worse, it looks like there’s no timeout for the notification — a friend just IMed me, and her notification has been hanging out in the corner of my screen for a full minute now.

SRWare Iron: The Browser of the future

SRWare Iron: The browser of the future - based on the free Sourcecode "Chromium" - without any problems at privacy and security

Google's Web browser Chrome thrilled with an extremely fast site rendering, a sleek design and innovative features. But it also gets critic from data protection specialists , for reasons such as creating a unique user ID or the submission of entries to Google to generate suggestions. SRWare Iron is a real alternative. The browser is based on the Chromium-source and offers the same features as Chrome - but without the critical points that the privacy concern.

We could therefore create a browser with which you can now use the innovative features without worrying about your privacy.

We want our users to participate in our work and make the browser free to download under the name "SRWare Iron" into the net.

If you are a google chrome user, you may already know that, google chrome tracks our all activity without knowing us. It’s very irritating side for google chrome lovers. But the good news is that, SRWare made an alternative browser named “Iron Browser” which is a modified version of Google chrome. What actually SRWare did? SRWare took the open source code of chromium project (Chrome is a open source browser of Chromium project) and used that code to make another user friendly version of chrome browser.
The big revolution is that, SRWare has removed the following function from chromium code : Client-ID, Timestamp, Suggest, Alternate Error Pages, Error Reporting, RLZ-Tracking, Google Updater, and URL-Tracker. These functions are used on main chrome to collect data about yourself and send to google. But the new Iron Browser is mad for privacy consciousness. So now you can enjoy all features and goodness of chrome by using iron without loosing privacy.

Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta - New Look

The Mozilla Company has just released some mock-ups of the new interface of Firefox 4.0. Interesting changes have some Firefox followers excited, but modifications also have some Firefox 3.5 fans speculating doubtfully about the final product. Overall, changes made by Mozilla in any of its products are almost always anticipated by Firefox users who still believe that Firefox is the way to go in internet browsing.

Two mock-ups have been released for the perusal and critiquing of Firefox users. These mock-ups serve as a sneak preview into what to expect with Mozilla Firefox 4.0. The first version shows the classic layout of the address bar with the tabs placed beneath it.

The second version has the address bar with the tabs placed above it. Although this version seems to look cleaner and is a space-saver, the title bar is no longer. All in all, this layout allows for increased vertical space, lessened travel for the mouse pointer to reach the page controls, and enhanced efficiency by eliminating visual clutter.

However, there are also some down-sides to having the tabs above the URL bar. First, people will feel weird first using it since it is not a familiar layout; second, the title bar is gone which makes it strange to use initially; third, the travel distance for the mouse pointer to get to the tabs is much further; and last, there is little or no more space between the window widgets and the application icon.
There are also hints to Mozilla combining the stop, refresh, and go buttons into one key. The main goal of Mozilla is to make the browser more simplistic and reduce the complexity in the functions. It also aims to allow more page space for the different webpage displays to allow users to have a cleaner presentation of website layouts and information.

In general, the new layout of Firefox 4.0 is quite attractive and different. As long as functionality is not compromised (like allowing for long drop-down menus from single icons), this new streamlined look seems quite agreeable, for the time being.
